Professor Gromala holds the Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Computational Technologies for Transforming Pain and is the founding director of the Chronic Pain Research Institute.  Gromala has supervised over 70 PhD, MSc, MA, and MFA committees in areas ranging from Computer Science and Engineering to Communications, Design and Interactive Art.

Research Interests

– New tools, interaction design & intraface design that address multiple facets of chronic diseases, including chronic pain
– Health Informatics, BioMedia, BioTechnologies
– Contemporary philosophies of experience; embodiment, interoception, neuroplasticity
– Visualization: medical visualization, personal visual analytics for patients

– Speculative Design at the confluence of HCI, Engineering, Humanities & Interaction Design
